Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
